NZSME Core Values & Principles

Our Purpose

NZSME exists to support small and medium-sized businesses across New Zealand by creating a trusted platform for networking, collaboration, learning, visibility, and practical business support.

The purpose of NZSME is not only to organise events, but to build a professional business community where SME owners can connect with the right people, share knowledge, explore opportunities, and grow with confidence.

Community First

NZSME is built on the principle of community before personal gain. Members, executive members, sponsors, and partners are expected to contribute in a way that strengthens the wider SME ecosystem.

Personal promotion, business visibility, and networking are welcome when done professionally and respectfully. However, the platform must not be misused for aggressive selling, spam, pressure tactics, or individual commercial exploitation.

Trust and Confidentiality

Trust is one of the most important foundations of NZSME. Members may share business challenges, opportunities, contacts, ideas, financial concerns, or operational matters during discussions, workshops, and private forums.

Such information must be respected and protected. Executive Members are required to sign the NZSME NDA before onboarding into internal discussions or executive-level responsibilities.

Professional Conduct

NZSME expects all members to communicate and behave professionally across events, WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, workshops, meetings, and all other platforms connected with the organisation.

Abusive behaviour, personal attacks, misinformation, repeated spam, harassment, unnecessary arguments, or conduct that damages the reputation of NZSME may result in moderation, restriction, suspension, or removal.

Transparency and Accountability

NZSME aims to operate with transparency in relation to membership fees, sponsorships, event costs, community initiatives, and the use of organisational resources.

Funds received through membership, sponsorships, donations, grants, or event-related activities should be used for the benefit, operation, and growth of NZSME and its SME community.

Equal Opportunity and Inclusion

NZSME welcomes business owners, professionals, entrepreneurs, startups, sponsors, and community contributors from diverse sectors, backgrounds, regions, and cultures across New Zealand.

The organisation aims to provide a fair and respectful platform where members can participate, contribute, and benefit without discrimination or unfair exclusion.

Political Neutrality

NZSME remains politically neutral and does not operate for the benefit of any individual political party, candidate, or political interest.

NZSME may engage with government representatives, councils, agencies, public officials, and political leaders when such engagement supports SME advocacy, ease of doing business, community development, or economic growth.

Advocacy for SMEs

NZSME aims to become a constructive voice for SMEs by raising relevant business concerns, operational challenges, policy questions, and practical issues affecting small and medium-sized businesses.

Advocacy must be conducted responsibly, respectfully, and in the interest of the wider SME community rather than for individual or partisan gain.

Responsible Use of NZSME Platforms

NZSME platforms, including the website, WhatsApp groups, social media pages, events, workshops, and digital assets, must be used only in a manner that supports the organisation’s purpose and values.

Members must not misuse NZSME platforms for unauthorised promotion, personal disputes, political campaigning, irrelevant forwarding, misleading claims, or activities that reduce the value of the community.

Ownership of Resources and Brand Integrity

All NZSME resources, including logos, posters, presentations, documents, workshop material, website content, digital assets, templates, and event collaterals, remain the property of NZSME.

These resources must not be modified, copied, distributed, republished, reused, or commercially exploited without written permission from authorised NZSME leadership.

Long-Term Vision

NZSME is being developed as a long-term platform for SME connection, business education, advocacy, visibility, and meaningful collaboration across New Zealand.

The goal is to build a serious, trusted, and professionally managed network that creates practical value for members and strengthens the wider business community.
